What I Ate Wednesday No.91

Welcome back to another What I ate Wednesday!

It has been ages since I posted a What I Ate Wednesday, hope you enjoy this little glimpse at my main meals of the day.
Breakfast

Jamie Oliver Breakfast Doughnuts - The minute I saw Jamie Oliver making Healthy breakfast Doughnuts on a recent episode of Jamie's Superfood I knew I needed to re-create them ASAP!  To my amazement they turned out well and I would definitely make them again.  If you are interested you can find the full recipe here.

I had one doughnut topped with cinnamon and brown sugar and the other topped with greek yogurt and mixed berries.  
Drink = Cup of tea with semi skimmed milk.




Lunch

PB & Banana on toast - One of my all time favourite lunches!  I used Pip n Nut crunchy peanut butter and 1 sliced banana with a cup of tea.  Simple yet satisfying!



Dinner

Daal - This was a homemade daal using a Domestic Geek Recipe which can be found here.  I done mine in the slow cooker and it turned out so well I really recommend giving it a try!  Served with brown rice and a big spoonful of sour cream.
Drink = water.

6 Tips for Successful Meal Planning


Hi guys!

I have been successfully meal planning each week for over a year now.  I know some people find it difficult to do and stick to long term, so I thought I would share some of my top tips.

1. Schedule your Shopping Day - Choose a weekly time to go shopping/order online and stick to it.  If your shopping day changes on a weekly basis it make meal planning more difficult so choose a day that suits you best and stick to it.

2. Stock Take - Check what you already have in your cupboard, freezer and fridge.  You may spot things that need using up which you can then make a note of and include in your meal plan for the week.

3. Special Offers - If you have a budget to stick to you may wish to look at the top offers available at the retailer you will be shopping at as it may influence which meals you choose to make that week.  For example the super 6 vegetables on offer at Aldi may decide which vegetables you will serve with each dish for the week.

4. Meal Plan - Devise a meal plan for the week.  Double up meals where you can so you cook once and eat twice to save time and energy (your own and of your appliances).  This works well for things like pasta bake, lasagne, chilli, stew and casseroles.  You may also like to dust of the slow cooker for days when you have less time for cooking come the evening.


5. Flexibility - You don’t have to meal plan every single day of the week and you are free to swap meals around if you don’t fancy what you had planned for that evening. 
I personally shop on a Tuesday after work (before dinner) and plan 4 meals for Tuesday night – Friday night.  I keep the other 3 days flexible to eat what I want or eat out at the weekend.

6. Shopping List – Once your meals are all planned write out a shopping list with everything you will need to make those meals.  Don’t forget to add on your usual staples for breakfast and lunches.  

I literally have to include everything I need – I once did the weekly food shop and forgot the milk!  Also, jot things down as and when you get low or run out of them.  I currently use this A5 shopping list which I picked up from Paperchase.

Top 5 Tips for packing light for holidays

Hi All!  

Here are my top 5 tips for packing light to stick to your luggage allowance when off on holiday.  I hope you find it useful when packing for your next trip.


1.  Go miniature
Take miniatures of your fave beauty products. This is an obvious one but also remember you can decant your fave face products which don't come in miniature into smaller travel bottles.  You can pick up a little set for £1 in Primark.  You can also top up previously used miniatures from your larger version to save on having to buy them over and over as it works out more expensive.

2.  Go easy on the footwear
Wear your bulky trainers on the plane.  They are super comfy for travelling in and trekking around airports and for any walking you might do whilst away too.  Then pack any lightweight sandals or flip-flops in your luggage.

3.  Hair Heat Appliances 
Firstly, check if where you are staying already has a hairdryer in the room.  Ask yourself if you actually need a hair curler or/or a straightening iron.  You are on holiday remember, let your hair down and go with the flow. Also, don't forget that a straighter can double up as a curling iron (if you have never tried this there are many YouTube vids which show you how).

4.  Visit the Laundrette
Yeah I know, the last thing you want to do on holiday is washing.  However if you are going for 2 weeks and have a limited luggage allowance it may be necessary.  So if where you are staying has a washing machine or laundrette plan to bung a load on mid-way through the holiday so you don't have to take so much.  Also, tubes of travel wash are perfect for hand washing bikinis in between uses.

5. Hand Luggage
Utilise the full weight that your airline allows for hand luggage.  Its surprising what extra you can squeeze into your hand luggage.  It is often around 7 - 10 kg, while some airlines have no weight limit at all o fill your boots...or bags in this instance!

My Top 5 Places to Eat in Disney World, Florida

Hi guys.  Welcome to another Disney related post. 

I last visited Walt Disney World, Florida in October 2016 and I thought I would share my favourite 5 places that I ate at whilst I was there.  I have also included a picture of the food I ordered at each place. They are all quick service meals and were delicious and filling (it's always a good portion size at Disney).

So without further ado, lets tuck in...

1.  Be Our Guest, Magic Kingdom

Entree/Main: Vegetable Quiche & salad (mushroom, zucchini, belle pepper, onion and chive quiche with baby lettuce coated with a champagne vinaigrette).

Dessert: Eclair à l’Orange (custard filling with zested orange finished with chocolate ganache).






2.  Fairfax Fare, Hollywood Studios  - Loaded Baked Potato (with sour cream and grated cheese)




3.  The Friar's Nook, Magic Kingdom - Macaroni & Cheese, (topped with toasted panko bread crumbs (bowl on right)).




4.  Earl of Sandwich, Disney Springs - Veggie hot sandwich (Feta, cucumber, red peppers, red onion, lettuceroma tomato and creamy mediterranean dressing).




5.  The Daily Poutine, Disney Springs - French Poutine (french fries, mushroom cream sauce and gruyere cheese).

What I Ate Wednesday No.90

Welcome back!  


I am now on the road to 100 What I Ate Wednesday posts, which just seems mad but here goes with number 90...

Brunch

A veggie brunch = 2 Quorn sausages, scrambled egg, beans, mushrooms, buttered toast.  Drink = tea.





Snack 

A homemade maple syrup and pecan muffin.  After such a large brunch I had a muffin to keep me going until dinner time.  Drink = tea (not shown).




Dinner

Homemade baked sweet potato fries topped with a spice mix, a Tesco veggie burger and mediterranean roasted vegetables.  I couldn't wait to give my mini metal chip pan a try, I picked 2 up for £6 in the debenhams sale.  Drink = water.

What I Ate Wednesday No.89

Hi everyone

It has been a while but i am back with another What I ate Wednesday post to share with you guys...

Breakfast


Porridge - Oat So Simple porridge topped with Meridian smooth peanut butter, desiccated coconut and strawberries.  I really enjoy this combo on my porridge.
Drink = tea.




Lunch

Cheese on toast - Cheddar cheese topped with lighter cheese and half a bag of Kettle Bites Smokey BBQ crisp.
Drinks = Water and tea in my new chip mug all the way from Disney World!




Dinner

Stuffed Marrow - Chunky oven baked chips with half a marrow stuffed with couscous, roasted mediterranean vegetables and cheese on top.  A neighbour gave me the home grown marrow, I have to say they don't taste of much but it was filling and certainly worked well stuffed with the flavoursome couscous.  Don't knock the marrow until you've tried it eh!
Drink = water.
