What I Ate Wednesday No.65


Breakfast
Choc-orange porridge - Oat So Simple original porrdeg topped with Clementine segments and a spoonful of chocolate spread.  Very tasty - plan on making this again pretty soonish!    Drink = tea.


Lunch
Veggie burger Pitta - A homemade veggie burger topped with cheddar cheese in a wholewheat pitta.  I made the burgers using the Vegan burger Jamie Oliver recipe and I cooked them in coconut oil.  Drink = water.



Dinner
Cheese pasta - Wholewheat fusili pasta topped with a homemade cheddar cheese sauce (my partner makes such a yummy cheese sauce), steamed broccoli and a slice of garlic bread.  Proper winter warm up food! :o) Drink = water.

Degusta Box Unboxing (January)

Hi everyone

I thought I would do an unboxing of my first ever Degusta Box which arrived in January.  The box cost me just £5.99 as I found and used a voucher code online.  The recommended retail price of all the items in this box was £20.96.  The chai latte was a free gift.


It comes well packaged in a recycle box and all items were in perfect condition including the glass jar and bottle.  When ordering I left a note asking for it to be left in the shed in the background as I knew the chances are that I would be at work.



Liquid wise the items that were included were a happy monkey smoothie, Koko dairy free coconut milk, a jar of Barilla Mediterranean vegetable pasta sauce and a bottle of Eisberg alcohol free wine.  

The smoothie was really tasty and I have since spotted them in supermarkets.  

I am a fan of good old fashioned cows milk normally, I did give almond milk a try once and did not like it at all.  I enjoyed the Koko milk a lot though, especially on porridge it made it extra creamy and I added chocolate chips and bam - it tasted like Bounty!

I very rarely drink and don't like wine but I am willing to give this alcohol free wine a try. 


The freeze dried fruit bits were yummy, however you don't get very many in a pack and I wouldn't pay £1.69 for them.  I love the Hip Pops, they were a bit like Snack-a-Jacks but I felt they had more flavour so I would purchase these again.


I really enjoyed The Fabulous Bakers Mango & Pineapple bars, they were filling and flavoursome and contained no nasties or added sugar.

The chai latte was something I have never tried before.  I frothed up half a cup of milk, added the chai powder and then topped up with hot water.  It's an acquired taste I think.  I found it very sweet but I did quite like it.

I have not tried the Betavivo crispy oat cereal as yet.

I wasn't too sure about the Complete Energy lemon bites as 1 bite contains the caffeine of 1 large premium coffee.  I don't drink coffee personally so that sounded like a rather large hit of caffeine that my body would not be used to.   However I thought that I would take them on holiday though as we plan to go walking and cycling so they may come in handy then.


I was pleased that the Barilla pasta was wholewheat as I don't normally buy white pasta.  It went lovely with the med veg sauce with i topped with come cheddar cheese and served with garlic bread.



I like the fact the box comes with leaflets detailing the items and what their recommended retail price and I would definitely order another Degusta box in the future.

What I Ate Wednesday No.64

Breakfast
Pastry - A warmed in the oven Tesco Finest Pain au Chocolat with a cup of tea in my dark and mysterious black with gold mug.


Lunch 
Packed lunch - The sandwich is 1 piece of wholemeal break with a Laughing Cow light cheese triangle on.  The accompaniments are a small apple, 2 clementines, a raspberry Activia 0% fat yogurt and a Nakd Cocoa orange bar.





Dinner
Pizza & Salad - A Mediterranean vegetable pizza with a rocket, parmesan shavings and toasted pine nut side salad drizzled with balsamic vinegar.

Cheddar Woods Lodge Holiday

Hi all

I have recently returned from a 4 night stay at Cheddar Woods Resort and Spa and thought I would share the details of my stay with you.  The resort is located in the picturesque Mendip Hills in Somerset which is classed as an area of outstanding natural beauty.  



Accommodation 

The lodges themselves are modern and luxurious with free (fast) wifi, decking and most have sunken hot tubs.  I stayed in a Mendip Premier which had 2 iPod docks, TVs in each bedroom, dishwasher, washer-dryer, towels, bedding and dressing gowns included.




Staying on the Park

There is an abundance of wildlife on your doorstep, I enjoyed watching the squirrels playing on the decking.
Decking & outdoor furniture

There is a small on-site spa where you can book a range of treatments, however I did not use it on this occasion.  I took my gym kit with me however after arriving I realised there was a £5 gym induction fee so I did not bother as I only wanted to use it the once. 

There were a couple of pool tables and a small bowling alley just off the main reception and opposite the bar.



 The swimming pool was an adequate size with adult only session times available. 

I ate at the on-site restaurant one evening and the food was really tasty.

However as there was only 1 vegetarian option (lasagne) we did not return during our stay.

There are a range of Go Active activities amiable for child and adults alike.  I gave the archery a go, it was something I had never done before but it was nice to try something new and I really enjoyed it (although i did feel sore for a couple of days after!).  

The grounds are immaculately manicured and the car parking spaces are right by each lodge.

There was a little 'farm shop' area next to the reception however it was overpriced so really only useful as a last resort in my eyes!  There is a Spar (part of a petrol station) a short walk down the road or a Tesco Express and a Sainsburys store just a couple minutes down the road by car.

Nearby

As well as being next to Cheddar and Axbridge villages the site is within close proximity to Glastonbury, Weston-Super-Mare, Wells and Bristol if you fancy a day trip.

Just along the road you will find the Strawberry Line cycle path.  We took a trip along the track on our bikes and around Cheddar reservoir.

Eating Out

Cheddar - I ate a delicious vegetarian breakfast in the Lion Rock Tea Rooms which is located just opposite Goughs Cave in Cheddar Gorge.  



Cafe Gorge does an outstanding cream tea; it was so fresh and the scone itself was warm, it really melted in the mouth.

After reading TripAdvisor reviews I had also wanted to try Edelweiss cafe however it was closed while we were there.

Axbridge - I had an evening meal at the Crown Inn twice and could not fault either meal.  I would definitely recommend it.  The food is all cooked fresh to order and the portions are more than adequate!

I had wanted to try The Almshouse Tea Rooms and took a bike ride there specifically to have lunch there however there was a sign on the door saying it was closed due to unforeseen circumstances on Thursday 4th February which was a real shame.

Weston-Super-Mare - I highly recommend Browns Stateside Diner if you like your american style food of burgers, hot dogs and pancakes.  It is really nicely decorated inside with a life-size Elvis statue and NYC style yellow taxi doors on the wall.




I really enjoyed my time at Cheddar and would definitely return to this resort again.  I would also like to give some of the other Darwin Escape resorts a try in the future.

Breakfast
Porridge and Tea - Oat So Simple porridge made with semi skimmed milk and topped with sliced bananas, a drizzle of Meridian smooth peanut butter and some flaked almonds.  Drink = mug of tea with semi skimmed milk.


Lunch
Flatbread & salad - A wholegrain flatbread (from Sainsburys) with a side salad consisting of mange tout, cherry tomatoes, edamame beans, peas, mixed peppers, coleslaw and cucumber.  Drink = water.




Dinner
Chilli topped sweet potato wedges - Homemade baked sweet potato wedges, topped with homemade five bean Quorn chilli and some grated low fat cheddar cheese.  Drink = orange squash with a spatone liquid iron supplement in.

What I Ate Wednesday No.62

Here is another round up of my main meals on an average day.
Breakfast
Porridge - Oat So Simple plain original porridge topped with a whole banana and dark chocolate chips for the eyes and nose - haha!  Drink = tea.



Lunch
Minestrone Soup - A whole tin of Heinz minestrone soup and a glass of water.



Dinner
Roast Dinner - A vegetarian roast dinner consisting of 2 homemade yorkshire puddings, 2 sage and onion stuffing balls, roast potatoes, mixed veg (carrots, broccoli, peas and sweetcorn), a cauliflower cheese grill smothered in vegetarian gravy.  Salivating as I write this, that was one tasty dinner!  Drink = water.
