Graze Snack Box Contents #1

Hi everyone

I thought I would share the contents of my Graze snack subscription box this week.  In case you don't know what Graze is it is a subscription 

I had an email about 12 new snacks available so I thought I would restart my subscription to give the new snacks a try.  I went through and rated the new snacks and checked 'Send Soon' on the ones i wanted to try the most.


When my box arrived I was pleased to see I had received the three seed protein flapjack, the Belgian speculoos (Speculoos is what the US call Lotus Biscoff spread), salted fudge & peanut cookie mix and a lemon and poppy seed slice with a afternoon tea infusion. 




First off I shared the protein flapjack with my partner as an elevenses with a cuppa on a Saturday morning.  The belgian speculoos I also shared whilst watching TV one evening. 




I had the salted fudge and peanut cookie as part of my lunch which was enjoyable.  The lemon and poppy seed slice was flavourful albeit a little bit dry.  I like the taste of the afternoon tea infusion which had a hint of asam which quite surprised me as I am not normally into fancy tea and just prefer a bog standard Tetley tea.

What I Ate Wednesday No.44

Another round up of my main meals (not including snacks) for you all.

Breakfast

Quaker Oat So Simple porridge with flaxseed and strawberries on top.  Drink = tea.




Lunch
2 slices of granary bread topped with some grated cheese and half a tin of beans.  Drink = water.


Dinner 
Sweet potato and spinach curry with pilau rice.  Drink = water

Birthday Presents 2015

Hi everyone

I always love having a lil looksie at what people get for their Birthday.  I thought I would share with you some of the presents which I received for my Birthday this year.  Let's start with my Chocolate Covered Katie recipe book, this is a really useful and thoughtful gift as I am currently trying to eat healthier and exercise.  I have a sweet tooth and there are so many recipes in this book that I can't wait to make.


I had a couple new tops from New Look, just need the sun to return so I can wear them!



I love this navy Joules coat with gold hardware.  I can't wait to wear it in the autumn, i have not owned Joules clothes before but this coat feels really nice quality.


I got this cushion to remind us of our trip to New York from my Mum.  It fits in perfectly with the colour scheme in the guest bedroom. 


These funky flamingos pj's (from Next) are rather too big for me but that's the best way to have pj's right?  They have a tie waist so I should be able to keep them up by tightening that.

Finally I got this gorgeous Cameo Rose flowery skater dress from New Look.  I feel like I want to go out for another afternoon tea as feel that would be the perfect excuse to wear it.

An August day trip to London

Hi everyone

I recently had a few days off from work and decided to take a day trip to London with my partner.

We parked up at the station and hopped on the train which arrived in Paddington station at 11:15am.  We took the tube to Leicester Square as we planned to have a mooch around there and Covent Garden as I had not explored that part of London before.

My partner was desperate to re-live the Shake Shack experience ever since we first tried it on our trip to New York last here (you can read what we got up to here).  So before we even booked the train he informed me here he would like to eat there.  

The vegetarian option is a 'shroom burger (top right), it is a crisp fried portabello mushroom filled with melted muenster and cheddar cheeses topped with lettuce, tomato and ShackSauce - they are super yummy!  My partner had a single SmokeShack burger (bottom right) which is a cheeseburger topped with applewood smoked bacon, cherry pepper and ShackSauce.  We shared some of their crinkled chips and a small caramel milkshake.  

Psst!  They even have snacks on the menu for your beloved doggy friends - I kid you not!


After lunch we walked through Green Park and chilled on a bench for a bit before walking to Buckingham Palace and then catching the tube to Westfield shopping centre.  Our feet were already aching badly by this point and it was a humid 25c but we soldiered on. 


I had not been to Westfield before and it did not disappoint, 'The Village' section with its high end designer stores was a little out of my price range (to say the least) but it was still fun having a look around the high street stores.  I actually didn't buy anything though!

We had a rest at Starbucks, I had a mango and passionfruit yogurt blend which was nice and refreshing and my partner had a caramel cream blend which was nice but it didn't have a huge amount of flavour.


Then it was time to head on back to Paddington on the tube to catch our train home.

By the time we drove home from the train station we made it back through the front door at 8:15pm, collapsed on the sofa and watched a film.

Lifestyle Change - Week 4 Update

Welcome back to week 4's update, the last month has flown by!  Apologies that this update is so late, I just haven't found the time to blog lately and there are tonnes of posts I need to finish/start.  Anyway here goes...

Exercise

I got in another 3 workouts this week which consisted of:


Monday = 15 minutes on exercise bike
Tuesday = 6 minute HIIT workout 
Friday = 6 minute HIIT, 6 min abs & 6 minute bum toning

I like to mix it up a bit and use various YouTube channels for the workouts that I feel in the mood for.

Eats

It has been another difficult week on the eating front...I had 3 days annual leave from work this week (5 days if you include the weekend.  It was my Birthday week and I had a few day trips planned for while we were off.  So obvs as it was my Birthday there was cake involved, chocolate cake to be exact and oh my it was gooood, worth every calorie!  I chose not to log anything on My Fitness Pal on my Birthday.


I also had a meal out on my Birthday and took a day trip to Weymouth, I have done a blog post on it here which includes where I ate the yummy (yet unhealthy) meal below.



Progress
I was a tad worried about stepping on the scales.  It turned out my muscle had increased slightly but the bad news was the half an inch I had lost off my weight last week had re-appeared, darn it!  

I am back to work/routine next week so that will make it easier on the eating front.

A summers day out in Weymouth

On a sunny day in August my partner and I decided to take a day trip to Weymouth.  I have been going to Weymouth every year for as long as I can remember and I love it there.

Firstly we did the park and ride (which is £3 per vehicle) into the town centre.  We had a wander around the shops, although the number of shops are quite limited so it did not take long.  We then went over to the seafront and sat and soaked up the atmosphere of children and cute dogs playing while the sun beats down.  We went in the amusement arcade and although it was a weekday it was very busy with children enjoying their school holidays.  When we came out we purposely head over to the dogs section of the beach to watch them frolicking in the sea, cue *dreams of owning a dog*.



By this time we were getting peckish and went to The White Heart pub in the town centre.  I was pleasantly surprised to see a very different vegetarian option on the menu of battered halloumi!  The food was very cheaply priced so we were wondering how large the portion size would be but we need not have worried.  It was so delicious, here is a pic of my battered halloumi, chips and mushy peas: 


Next we returned on the park and ride to get our car and drove to Bowleaze Cove.  There is Fantasy Island Fun Park, a gift shop, a cafe, chips shop, ice cream parlour and bar.  We sat on the rocks and watched the jet ski's whilst eating a yummy Carte d'or ice cream each.




The next thing we knew it was time to head home.  It was lovely to spend a day by the sea side especially as the weather was on our side.

What I Ate Wednesday No.43

Breakfast
Quaker Oat So Simple with a chopped bananas and a dollop of peanut butter. Drink = Tea.


Snack
I don't usually include my snacks in my What I Ate Wednesday posts but remembered to snap my mid-morning snack on this occasion.  It was a Kallo blueberry and vanilla rice and corn cake with a cup of tea.


Lunch
Strawberry jam on granary toast, strawberries. Drink = Robinsons no added sugar orange squash.


Dinner
Homemade quorn lasagne with a simple side salad and a piece of garlic bread.  Drink = Glass of water

What I Ate Wednesday No.42

Breakfast
Quaker Oat So Simple porridge topped with pecans and a strawberry.  Drink = cup of tea with semi skimmed milk.



Lunch
Heinz tomato soup with a piece of wholemeal bread.  I forgotten just how good Heinz tomato soup is.  Drink = Glass of water.




Dinner
New potatoes with herbs and butter, Quorn gammon steak and garden peas eaten al fresco with the usual glass of water.

Lifestyle Change - Week 3 Update

Hi everyone

My week 3 update post is rather overdue, lucky I keep notes of exercise and weigh ins or else I would have forgotten by now!


Exercise


Again I have stuck to the 'minimum of 3 workouts per week'.  I have a workouts playlist set up on YouTube so I know which ones I enjoy/get the most out of and can just select a workout or 2 off of there.

My workouts were as follows:

Monday2 10 minute YouTube dance workouts
Wednesday = 15 minutes on the exercise bike 
Friday6 min HIIT fat burn workout

I treated myself to some new workout clothes.  I picked up this Adidas top and matching leggings for less than half price in the Next sale.  The top was £10 and the leggings were £12.  
I can't wait to wear them now!



Eats

Apart from 1 day, where a craving for chocolate ended up in me consuming 2 cadbury Roses and going 27 calories over my goal, I stuck to my calorie limit which feels good.

If you aren't sure where you are going wrong food wise or purely want to see how much of your required nutrients you are getting then I do recommend giving the My Fitness Pal app a try for a month or so.  I am finding exercise is making me more hungry so am having to be careful not to eat more (especially of the wrong thing) due to the exercise I am doing.

Progress 

This week I had lost half an inch off my waist which I was very pleased about.  *YAY* A step in the right direction and my weight had gone down very slightly from the previous week.

Lifestyle Change - Week 1 Update

Hi everyone

So it is the end of week 1 and I am back to give you a progress update following my Lifestyle Change Intro - Starting Exercise and Getting Fitter post.

Exercise
This week I have exercised 4 times in total which was 2 15 minute stints on the exercise bike - I plan to increase how far I travel each time.
A 8 minute high intensity interval training (HIIT) workout (courtesy of a YouTube video) which left my thighs aching for the next couple days.
Finally, a 2.5 mile bike ride to town and back.  Normally I would hop in the car to pop into town but it was much more fun riding along the cycle track on a Saturday morning instead, I hope to do this more often.

Food
I have religiously logged everything that I have eaten and drank on My Fitness Pal.  I have managed to keep under my calorie target all week, although 1 day I had just 8 calories left but that did make me think twice about reaching for a chocolate digestive with my cup of tea.

I had a family meal to attend at Prezzo so I checked out the menu before I went to see what the healthier/lower calorie options were.  I was happy to see they do a lot of their pizzas and pastas in a light version where it is a much smaller flatbread pizza and comes with a side salad with low calorie dressing.  So I went for a Verde Light pizza which was mushrooms, spinach, asparagus, egg, bella lodi cheese, cherry tomatoes and mozzarella on a b├ęchamel base.  I did find it odd that they actually charge MORE for a smaller, lighter version but hey it tasted good. 

Progress
I am not expecting to lose weight during this lifestyle change, it may even go up as I start to gradually build up muscle which is fine.  This week my weight reduced by 1kg and my waist measurement remained the same.
