New York City Intinerary 5 nights, 6 days

I am sharing details of how I spent my 6 days (5 nights) in New York City as I found it useful viewing other peoples itineraries when trying to plan my own trip.  It is down to personal preference but hopefully it will give you some ideas and help you decide what you would like to include in your trip.

Day 1: We arrived in the afternoon, dropped off our cases at the hotel and headed out to get our bearings.  We had a look around Grand Central Station, went in some stores and scouted out the dining concourse.  I have never been in a Bath & Body Works and found there was one just along the road from our hotel, I had to have a look around immediately.  On the list of eateries we wanted to try was Five Guys so we headed in there for some fast food.

Day 2: We saw the Chrysler building (we also had a view of the top of it from our hotel room).  We visited Bryant Park, Times Square, Macys, and various shops on 5th Ave during the day.
Times Square

We watched the Columbus Day parade outside H&M on 5th Ave.

We had a hot drink and snack in Dunkin' Donuts.  Then we headed on up to Madison Square where we found a new Lego store that had opened that day and they were building a Statue of Liberty out of Lego in the park .

Day 3: As it was a once in a lifetime opportunity we visited the Friends Central Perk pop up cafe.  It was in SoHo for a limited time only to celebrate the Friends 20th Anniversary.  We had to queue for 1.5 hours but it was worth it  to sit on the actual sofa they used in the show.

Afterwards we went to the 9/11 memorial, New York Stock Exchange, Wall St and Battery Park with a view of the Statue of Liberty in the distance.  Battery Park is currently being redeveloped so parts of it resemble a building site at the moment.  In the evening we went to Times Square and saw the flagship Lego store, M&M World, Disney store etc.

Day 4: We ventured to the flagship Apple Store, Hollister, Abercrombie and Fitch.  We strolled up through Central Park taking photos, stopping at various benches and having a cuppa and a muffin at The Boathouse cafe.

Day 5: As it was raining it was the perfect day to spend in the American Museum of Natural History, unfortunately most of New York had the same idea!  We booked tickets for Top of the Rock at a specific time that would let us see the New York skyline in the day, sunset and at night - it was beautiful, and offered such amazing views across the whole city.

For dinner we headed to the widely acclaimed Shake Shack in Grand Central Station.  I had a 'shroom burger which was sooooo good.

Day 6: For our last day we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and ended up in Brooklyn.  It takes about 30 minutes to walk it depending on how much you stop to take pics.

We then did some last minute shopping in Bloomingdales, Macys, Hollister etc.
Then, as soon as it all began, it was time to go home :(

Hope you find it interesting/useful!  Let me know in the comments below.

Next Mini Homeware Haul

I thought I would share a couple homeware items that I picked up in the Next sale.

I got a teal embroidered cushion from the Kirstie Allsopp range to go in my lounge for just £10 reduced from £18

I also got a Next desk set which includes:
- letter holder
- date blocks
- photo frame

This cost £8.  I am not sure I would have paid £20 for it but it goes really well with the walls in my study (below).

What Autumn Means to Me

Autumn is officially here, so in an effort to embrace it and wave goodbye to summer here is what autumn means to me...

Fireworks πŸ”₯πŸ’«πŸ’₯
It is tradition for me to wrap up warm and pop along to the local firework display and bonfire.  It tends to rain so fingers crossed it stays dry this year!

Autumn Leaves πŸ‚πŸπŸŒ°
We have a cycle path near us and I enjoy walking along it into our little town and crunching in the leaves along the way.  I also like walks with my sisters dogs.

Pumpkins πŸŽƒ
I do love a good pumpkin carving sesh, the pic is of some my sister and I done a few years back (excuse the picture quality).  My sister is too old to want to do it now so I have no-one to do one with and I didnt have any trick or treaters at all last year.  Still it's a good enough reason to buy chocolate 'just in case' and end up eating the lot myself!

Carnival🎊πŸŽͺπŸ”₯
A small local carnival goes through the town each November, the amount of floats seems to get smaller every year.  I usually go along if it isn't tipping down with rain.

Candle πŸ”₯
My current candle of choice is the Airwick Colours of Nature colour changing candle in Sweet Pea.

What do you love about Autumn?

New York City Packing Problems

I having some issues right now...from looking at average temperatures and keeping an eye on the long range forecast the weather in New York in October appears to be quite changeable, around 18c seems to be average but it can get down to about 5c at night or sometimes up in the mid 20c’s during the day with a chance of showers and storms.

I have included a forecast screen shot below however it keeps changing on a daily basis!

From The Weather Channel App

This is causing some packing issues for me as on one hand I may need shorts but on the other I may need a warm coat and gloves for the evenings.  So I think I am going to have to pack for both eventualities.  I guess there are always plenty of shops on the hotels doorstep if I find I don’t have something I require.

Also footwear is an issue as there will be a LOT of walking and the only thing I am comfortable in is trainers.  So is there any point taking smart boots?  Maybe Ugg boots are enough?...nope they will definitely be too warm!

No doubt some evenings may be spent flaked out in the hotel room with throbbing feet but I expect for at least 1 night we will want to pop out for a nice meal which will require boots. Decisions, decisions!

Here's a pic of my suitcase with luggage bag that secures around the main suitcases handle.
My suitcase & hand luggage
It is bigger than I need for a 5 night trip but it's not a bad thing as that leaves space for SHOPPING!!

Bring it on! Woohoo!

What's in my make-up bag?

Howdy everyone!

I thought some of you may be interested in a peek inside my make up bag!  Firstly here is said make up bag, it is off white and coral with a black tassel and is from Next.

Here are the essential items which I wear on a daily basis.  As you can tell from the pic the make up I wear is minimal which is just as well as I don't have much time in the morning to do it.

Eye lash curler - This is from Avon and is the only eye lash curler I can use.  I find the normal metal contraptions far too fiddly.

Brow pencil - N.Y.C eye pencil 927A Taupe.

Brow brush - Just a basic brush that I use on my brows and lashes.

BB cream - Seventeen Blemish Balm in light.

Concealer - Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse 030 sand.  This is actually called matte-perfect mousse foundation but I use it under my eyes to cover dark circles like a concealer.

Mascara - My mascara recently ran out and I was looking to purchase another. I found the Rimmel Wonderfull mascara with argan oil and thought I would give it a try as it was on offer in Superdrug.  I was pleasantly surprised with how good it is, it really lifts and separates the lashes out which is exactly what my lashes need.

Hope you enjoyed the sneak peek inside my make up bag!
